Hello Friends,

Just wanted to clear things up. Jonathan Plummer is a great guy and a good friend, but not my boyfriend. Some photos were recently taken from my Flickr page of us embracing at my birthday party and re posted all over the web as proof that we are a couple. I was amazed at how quickly this story spread and how much homophobia and racism still gets stirred up when small minded people see a photo of men of different races kissing.

Jonathan is a great guy and I hope that he is able to find happiness without the media scrutiny that happened with this situation. I wish the best to Jonathan and to whoever is lucky enough to be his partner.

The podcast will resume soon, I have many great things in store for all of you. I did not intend to have my hiatus last this long but I needed to make sure that PinkMafiaRadio was remaining true to its purpose.

Its that time again!!! Blatino Oasis is back!!!

Last year PinkMafiaRadio was proud to bring you coverage of the first annual Blatino Oasis in Palm Springs, CA. This years event looks like it will be bigger and better!

The fact that Palm Springs is a gay vacation hot spot is no secret to many people in California . However, upon closer observation, when you think about the big gay events produced in Palm Springs such as the Spring Break White Party or the Dinah Shore women’s weekend, particularly if you are a person of color, you quickly notice that these events are attended mostly by the white gay community.

Since 2007, event promoter Joe Hawkins has been working to change the perception that Palm Springs is just a getaway for white people. Joe is the producer of Blatino Oasis, a weekend event “targeting men of African and Latin descent and their friends.” Mr. Hawkins says that he wants to bring Black & Latino gay men to the desert to help diversify the kinds of people who choose Palm Springs as a vacation destination.

“Until our first event last year, most gay men of color never really thought of Palm Springs as a getaway destination, especially not men of African descent. Most African American LGBT people tend to go to travel destinations where there are large populations of black LGBT people such as Atlanta , New York , Miami , or Washington D.C. They now know that Palm Springs is a beautiful, extremely gay friendly vacation destination, just a few hours from Los Angeles. Last year we awarded porn star and GAYVN hall of famer Tiger Tyson and men attended from all over the nation and they loved it!” Hawkins said.

Set to take place May 9-12, Blatino Oasis, Palm Springs , has already become one of “The Place To Be” destinations for men of color. “I am really excited about this year because last year, we only had four months to get the attention of the hundreds of men who attended Blatino Oasis. We expect the number of attendees to triple since we have had almost a year to promote the event this time.” Joe said.

Erotica is the central theme of the event and features the Blatino Erotica Awards Ceremony held at the Helios Resort. Last year’s host of the 1st Annual Blatino Erotica Awards was MTV Real World Reality star Karamo. This year, out gay former professional basketball player, Out 100 honoree, and star of the new upcoming MTV Logo reality series “Rockdogs,” Demarco Majors will host the awards ceremony at Blatino Oasis Palm Springs for 2008.

Author James Earl Hardy (Bboy Blues) will present his new collection of gay erotic stories. Larry Cross will present his new coffee table book of nudes “Vibrant Energy: Black Men Revealed” and will be joined by London based photographer Ajamu X, who is also featured in the book. Also, 2007 Blatino Erotica Honoree "Belasco" will be showcasing his latest erotic artwork at the Desert Moon on Saturday at 2pm.

The event also has an impressive lineup of the hottest west coast dj’s to include San Francisco ’s David Harness (End Up), L.A. ’s Chris Johnson (Catch One Disco), and Hollywood ’s Angel C (Circus Disco). “I am so excited about having this lineup of dj talent. Our party’s will happen at the Helios & Canyon Club and there will also be a free party at Hunter’s Nightclub on Arenas from 9pm -2am on Saturday, May 10.” Hawkins said.

In addition to encouraging men of color to step out of their travel comfort zones, Hawkins said that Blatino Oasis is also an attempt to de-stigmatize homosexuality and bisexuality in the gay men of color community and to provide them with an opportunity to release, relax, and rejuvenate. The event even has a director of relaxation services.

“I don’t believe that we honor sex as the gift that it is in our lives. We have been taught that homosexuality is wrong and this directly affects our mental and biological health. Blatino Oasis is a sexy event that empowers our community to celebrate sex and our sexuality in a way that promotes self and group acceptance, yet doesn’t compromise individual or group health.” Hawkins said.

The Blatino Erotica Awards ceremony will be held at the Helios Resort. The Saturday Helios event will also feature a swimwear and underwear poolside fashion show sponsored by RUFSKIN Denim and hosted by model Royce and actor Kairon John (Noah's Arc & CSI Miami) and star of the upcoming Maurice Jamal TV series Ski-Trip: Friends & Lovers. There will also be parties at the Canyon Club Hotel sponsored by justusboys.com.

I want to send out my condolences to the friends, family and fans of Seprapis Kephra AKA K-Rock (1976-2008).

Seprapis was a great entertainer but he was also a wonderful man. I had the pleasure of interviewing Seprapis for Pink Mafia Radio and was touched by his joyous spirit and captivating love of life. He commanded the stage like no other and always presented his audience with an artistically sensual show.

Seprapis will be deeply missed and I pray he is able to receive as much joy and love in his next life as he spread in this one.

My interview with K-Rock and his friends Panther, Silk and Bombay originally aired almost 2 years ago on Episode 23 of PinkMafiaRadio. Before and after the interview I speak about the passing of a loved one in the podcasting world and ask my listeners to enjoy life without letting anyone prevent you from living your life to the fullest because none of us know how long we have. That request feels even more prescient now and I hope all of you will live as fearlessly as Serapis.

The first annual BLATINO OASIS event took place in Palm Springs and PinkMafiaRadio was there to bring you a glimpse of the fun, sun, and fellas! A wonderful man and dear guest of the show has left us too soon.

Dekenric "Devin" Wiley, Vice President of FlavaWorks has passed away at the age of 32. I met Devin in 2005 at the LA Gay Erotic Expo and was amazed by his energy, charisma and directness. I had Devin on the show (PinkMafiaRaido Ep62) in 2006 to talk about the issues at FlavaWorks and was again impressed with how he dealt with all the chaos going on around him. He will be remembered and missed.

At The Beach LA's Black GLBT Pride celebrated its 19th annual beach party over the July 4th weekend with sun & fun for all those who came out to show their pride. This years featured artist Donnie was very special as an out artist making waves in mainstream hip hop he brought not only his amazing skills as a musition to the stage he also brought attention to issues of homophobia in hip hop with his lyrics and honesty. There is a new film out that needs your attention and support. "BOY CULTURE" is a great new movie that has opened in LA, NYC and San Francisco. My Dear Friends and Family,

It's hard to believe that this day is finally upon us -- the theatrical opening of BOY CULTURE! I directed the film and co-wrote the script with Philip Pierce. It took nearly a decade to make.

The movie is based on a brilliant, critically-acclaimed novel by Matthew Rettenmund and is produced by Stephen Israel, Victor Simpkins and Philip Pierce. It has won 18 national and international awards. I've been as far as Africa, Brazil, Montreal, and London, promoting it and now we are now ready to send our baby out into the world.

BOY CULTURE opens in theaters Friday, March 23 in Los Angeles, New York and San Francisco and we urgently need your help!

As many of you know, the first weekend box office determines if a film will sink or swim. Independent films like ours are left to fend for themselves each week. The opening weekend numbers will determine how wide our film plays and how long it lives in theaters.

BOY CULTURE does not have a marketing budget to buy expensive TV commercials or billboards. We have only the power of community and grassroots outreach. With its awards and positive reviews, Boy Culture is getting a lot of attention right now, so its box office performance will be watched carefully by others who are considering investing in gay-themed films. Supporting films like this one is like voting in an election. You are voting with your feet and your dollars.

So what can you do? There are three simple things, right now, where you are sitting.

1. Please forward this email to your friends and any groups you think may be interested in a film like this.

2. Buy tickets and come see the movie on opening weekend! Advance tickets are available on-line in LA now! Come alone or in groups! Tickets make great gifts! 3. If BOY CULTURE is not coming to your city, please call your local art house theatre and ask them for it! We're trying to book it in every town possible, it's the theatres who don't think there's an audience for gay indie film. Just a single phone call from a local audience member can change someone's mind. It happens all the time!

As a fan of beautifully photographed physique calendars I had heard of the City Gym Boys around the time of the first publication of their inspirational and stunning first calendar release in 1997. The group has grown and expanded into educational workout videos, Television, and Print work but they have always remained true to their original mission of youth mentoring and outreach. I got to meet some of the City Gym Boys when they came to LA in December for a fashion show and calendar signing at Club Seduction.

2007 is turning out to be such a busy year for PinkMafiaRadio that it has been hard to keep the sight updated. I am looking into bringing on some volunteers to keep the site fresh but there are some special events that I wanted to make sure you all know about.

The Pan African Film and Arts Festival is going on right now in Los Angeles and has some amazing Panels, Films and even a Noah’s Arc Marathon. The Pan African Film and Arts Festival has included GLBT programming for the past 5 years with some great work and this year they continue to include a diverse range of films. So often GLBT are only acknowledged at GLBT festivals, I am so thrilled by the extensive range of GLBT events that are being hosted by this festival. I hope that many of you are able to show your support to the filmmakers and to the festival programmers by coming to as many of these exciting events as you can. Noah's Arc will join Sex and the City, Star Trek and The Simpsons as yet another fan-driven series finding a home at the multiplex, opening the door to greater storytelling depth, expanded creative opportunities and new audiences. Currently in development, the film is expected to pick up after the show's second season cliffhanger finale and continue with an even bolder and provocative storyline. The film will leave the door open for sequels, additional television seasons and specials. The series is created by and executive produced by Patrik-Ian Polk and his Tall Skinny Black Boy Productions.

Logo's most popular series, season one of Noah's Arc premiered in October 2005, just months after the launch of the network and season two premiered in August 2006. The show, which became the first television series about LGBT people of color, follows the lives and loves of four African-American gay men looking for love and signs of intelligent life in Los Angeles: Noah (Darryl Stephens), Chance (Doug Spearman), Alex (Rodney Chester) and Ricky (Christian Vincent).

"I began this series as a straight-to-DVD project, and Logo gave us a home as its flagship scripted series. And now we're taking it to the big screen!" said Polk. Polk is expected to share producing duties on the Noah's Arc film with series co-executive producer Carol Ann Shine. Good news for all of us “Noah’s Arc” fans! XXXX updated his/her blog with a release date for the DVD set of Season 2! Its official XXXX XX, 2007 is the date that you can get your hands on the full second season. Expect tons of extra features covering the making of, deleted and extended scenes plus all of the great digisodes that were made for LOGOonline.com Including Ricky’s attempt to bottom for Junito’s birthday and story behind Chance and Eddie’s daughter? The cast and crew raised the bar in their second season of “Noah’s Arc” and I am thrilled to know that LOGO has set a release date for their second outing!

As far as any announcements on when Season 3 will begin production or be on air…no word yet. XXXX states in his blog that LOGO will make an announcement very soon. So for now the best thing to do is write LOGO emails letting them know how much the show means to you and that they need to bring it back ASAP! LOGO is a new channel and has limited access to info on ratings and viewer stats so they need input from fans like you.

Another way to show your support for the show is to keep purchasing episodes from season one and two in iTunes and buy the DVD set of Season one for your friends and family. The best way to support shows like “Noah’s Arc” is with your $$$! I am amazed by how often I see in fan requests for bootlegs or downloads of the show; please don’t distribute the show illegally. In this digital age of easy access people forget that it costs a lot of money to produce TV, movies and music. The one thing most likely to get LOGO to give a green light for season three would be a phone call from BestBuy or Amazon.com letting them know they have sold out of all their DVD sets of “Noah’s Arc”.

"My Life, My Style" a project of "In The Meantime" presented a special night of celebration and education. As part of their outreach mission to educate men between 18-29 on issues of HIV and empowerment, guests of METRO from Ivan Daniel Productions were given a small questionnaire on HIV and safer sex. Once the questionnaire was filled out they received a gift and a photo with a very sexy Santa.

Congratulations to Greg Wilson who is in charge of the "My Life, My Style" program and to Jeffery King who founded "In The Meantime". Jeffery King is also the Executive Director and just a few weeks ago celebrated the seventh anniversary of this vital organization with beautiful fundraiser here in LA.

In these days of staggering HIV rates it is reassuring to know that organizations like “In The Meantime” are out there providing education, resources and outreach in such innovative and engaging ways.

So often we hear about large organizations in the GLBT community that seem massive and extremely well connected yet it can be hard to find evidence of their efforts in our lives. I often seem to only see the letterhead of these groups when I receive a mailing requesting a donation.

There is however an organization that is celebrating its third anniversary today whose efforts to fight for civil rights is visible in more then just a barrage of donation requests. The National Black Justice Coalition is leading the struggle to fight racism and homophobia. Dealing with issues ranging from Gay marrage, homophobia in the church, and empowering SGL people with seminars, training and protests across the country.

We go back to the set of “The DL Chronicles: Episode Robert” for our second behind the scenes look at the production of this amazing independent series. In Ep56, our first behind the scenes episode we spoke with a lot of the production crew. Even getting some insight from Deondray’s mom on his early inspirations. In Ep64 we speak with several more crewmembers as well as some of the extraordinary main cast. Terrell Tilford and Toyin Moses speak with us about their roles in The DL Chronicles and why they fell in love with this project. We talked about how he got started and what it takes to be in one of his films plus a lot more with Tiger and his crew Dylan and Camron. Rodney Chester is no stranger to the entertainment industry. Currently starring in the hit MTV Logo series “Noah’s Arc,” Rodney first appeared in the independent film “Punks,” starring Rockmond Dunbar and Vanessa Williams. With over several hundred performances completed in dance, film, and video, for over 15 years Rodney has been actively involved in the fields of dance and choreography. A graduate of Bethune Cookman College in his home state of Florida, Rodney has also worked as an agent and dance department co-director for two of Los Angeles’ largest talent agencies. His latest role is that of business owner which has him juggling a successful acting career while running his own business. Based in Los Angeles, Rodney is the owner of the Trio Talent Agency which he represents dancers and choreographers for television, film, and, commercials.

Episode 61 is my effort to bring more attention to the lives and deaths of two black gay men. Tyrone Garner was arrested for having gay sex in Texas in 1998 his case made it to the Supreme Court and due to his case all state laws in the United States making Homosexual sex illegal were nullified.
Michael Sandy was beaten by 4 straight white guys who lured him out of his home by posing as gay on a chat site, he remained unconscious but alive after his attack only with the help of life support systems that were removed at the request of his family.

BREAKING NEWS FROM KEITHBOYKIN.COM -- Michael Sandy, the 29-year-old black gay man who was attacked in a gay bashing incident last Sunday, has died. Sandy reportedly died around noon today after the family decided to remove the life support respirator that had kept him alive. That information has been confirmed by sources close to his family. Police are reportedly considering whether to elevate the charges against the suspects as a result of Sandy's death.

Black LGBT organizers and activists vowed to hold a rally on Monday to demand an end to hate violence in the city and to hold city leaders accountable. The rally is scheduled to take place at 5 p.m. on Monday at New York City Hall. The rally is being sponsored by People of Color In Crisis, the New York State Black Gay Network, Gay Men of African Descent, the New York City Anti-Violence Project and the National Black Justice Coalition.

I have two very cool things to let you all know about.

The 2nd cool thing made me smile, laugh, and cry all from one podcast! As some of you know I am a “Project Runway” junkie & a podcast addict. Well I recently found the podcast “Dinks on TV: Project Runway” it’s hosted by the sweetest sounding straight couple you will ever hear talking about fashion. They get more into the show then I do and I love them for it. I recently emailed them to let them know how much I enjoy their show and to tell them about my interview with Santino. Season two of Project Runway featured many exciting moments most of them involving contestant Santino Rice, one day he posted a MySpace bulletin about having a yard sale and I knew the Pink Mafia had to be there. PinkMafiaRadio Ep56 DL Chronicles Exposed

---Part one of a three part series on “DL Chronicles: Robert”---

The first episode of PinkMafiaRadio included coverage of an amazing short film that I saw at LA’s Fusion Film Festival. That 30 min short was “DL Chronicles: Episode Wes” by film makers Quincy LeNear and Deondray Gossett I met them at the screening and told them that I would do anything in my power to help them with any future productions of the DL Chronicles. In early April this year I got to fulfill my promise, I spent many nights and a few days on the set of the DL Chronicles Episode Robert.

On episode 56 of PinkMafiaRadio we bring you behind the scenes to find out what its like to shoot an independent film. Between shots I speak with many of the cast and crew from the PA’s to a very supportive Mom, it takes a lot of people to bring a directors vision to the screen and it was a pleasure for me to be a part of it and to bring you this little piece of the experience.

The National Black Justice Coalition, (NBJC),www.nbjc.org is partnering with GLAAD, www.glaad.org, in order to conduct a series of nationwide Black LGBT media trainings. These trainings will be conducted in every corridor of the country and will provide coaching and other types of training to every day Black LGBT non-activists and gay-affirming clergy alike. The focus of the trainings is to teach individuals on how to tell their own stories and their personal truths through the media as it relates to the intersection of being both African American and LGBT.

These informative, interactive, and friendly trainings will also explore very specific Black LGBT issues and the individual strategies used in forming a media message around them. In addition, the trainings will provide a vast array of information concerning important tips, dos and donts in responding to print, television, radio, and online news media outlets concerning LGBT issues.
The NBJC-GLAAD Black LGBT media trainings are free to the general public.
